Primary Duties:

Description

Examples of Work
Manage, supervise, and oversee the work and testing activities in the Biuminous Laboratory and assigned personnel. Maintain surveillance of all sampling, testing, reporting, and documentation of mateirals used in the maintenance and construction of highways and bridges as required. Responsible for maintaining AASHTO Accreditation for the laboratory. Calibration of all testing equipment and maintaining accurate documentation and records. Perform general upkeep of the laboratory area and testing equipment. Assist in the teaching and training of educational program for construction and maintenance personnel. Maintain regular communication with Central Lab and Assistant Materials and Research Engineer.

Skills:

Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Two-year degree in civil engineering technology, construction management, industrial technology management, or related degree and experience in sampling, inspecting and/or testing construction materials or associated products or related experience. Years of experience in sampling and testing construction materials, highway construction inspection, or related experience may substitute for required education on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERRED: Experience in materials testing and/or nondestructive Testing. Experience in construction operations. Experience overseeing multiple projects at once. Supervisory experience.

OTHER: Valid driver's license or ability to provide authorized independent transportation. Must be available for out of town work and occasional overnight travel. Regular and reliable attendance is also required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of test procedures for asphalt and emulsions. Knowledge of destructive and or nondestructive testing. Background of statistical quality acceptance procedures and quality systems analysis. Knowledge of highway construction materials. Ability to exercise sound scientific judgement in supervising quality control and subordinates. Ability to follow administrative direction. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to maintain records and reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SiteManager.
